Supporting Environmental Equity through Data

We are excited to announce the launch of the SEED program, made possible through funding from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This initiative is designed to support underserved communities across the United States by enhancing their data capabilities.

About the SEED Program

SEED is designed to empower communities to become local data champions, capable of advocating for data equity and implementing robust data plans for EPA grant reporting as well as environmental and economic opportunities.

Strengthen Environmental and Economic Opportunities

This program will help participants leverage data to drive investments and enhance community development.

Enhance Data Capabilities

This program will provide specialized training for 30 underserved communities to improve their data collection, management, and reporting skills.

Get ‘PREPARED’

This program will assist in developing community-led data equity plans to advocate for data equity and improve EPA grant reporting.

Program Outcomes

SEED aims to provide comprehensive technical assistance and support to underserved communities, helping them develop data capabilities, evaluation capability, and reporting capacity. Our tailored training sessions and workshops are designed to:

  • Tailored Training: Customized training sessions focused on the specific data needs of underserved communities.

  • Community Engagement: Listening sessions to understand the unique challenges and needs of each community.

  • Capacity Building: Workshops on program evaluation, evidence-building, and data equity projects.

  • National Dissemination: Creation and distribution of a comprehensive Playbook summarizing insights and best practices.

Supported by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

As part of EPA’s Promoting Readiness and Enhancing Proficiency to Advance Reporting and Data (PREPARED) program, NGIN was awarded $500,000 to build individual, organizational, and collective capacity for would-be recipients of EPA funds in small, underserved, and/or Tribal Communities on data, reporting and evidence-building so that they are equipped to apply for future or current EPA grant opportunities.
